St. Patrick's Day had Miami-style heat as far north as eastern North Carolina, now there are frost warnings a mere 2 days later and even places without frost dipped to low single digits C.
Juno Beach, 2015. This is not a particularly big temperature swing in-and-of-itself, but for a tropical climate it most definitely is.
Look at that jump of over 5C between February 2015 and March 2015. That is about as big a jump between February and March in borderline continental Wichita, in a tropical climate nevertheless.
Austin, December 2022 and January 2023. December 22-27 had lows between 0C to -9C, and a high as cold as 0C but were followed by 25/15C on December 29 and 28/21C on January 2.
More examples of Augusta Daniel Field in March and April 2015:
-March 1 2015 had a high of 7C in a month with an average high of 22C. For comparison the monthly record high of 30C was vastly less of a jump up compared to the average.
-The very next day it warmed up to 25C. For comparison this is akin to a more wild version of the Charleston Airport January 2024 fluctuations.
-April 16 2015 had a 14C high (for reference this is the average high for Minneapolis on April 16) when the average high is 26C.
Might not be a very big difference but this is impressive because it happened at a time when stable tropical air takes over the Southeast US and seasonally eliminates usual low-sun season temperature fluctuations.
Interestingly, however, neither of these months had monthly minimums as cold as might be expected from the coldest highs. March 2015 never got below 2C and April 2015, as mentioned at the start, never below 11C.
Wilmington Airport, January 2024. These are even more extreme versions of the Charleston Airport January 2024 I gave at the start of the thread - the coldest highs/lows are colder and the warmest low is warmer.
While highs ranging from mid-teens to 30C isn't as extreme as other Southeast US examples, the lows ranging from low single digits to low 20s is quite notable in my opinion. It's also worth noting that there were November 2/3 to start the month off with 21-23C highs but 1C lows.
