What an interesting article - thanks for posting. Cedar City's challenge is is a good example of the complexity and scope of water scarcity in many parts of the western US.

If it was to get too dry, it looks like a water pipeline could be built from the Great Lakes to out west.

No not going to happen, Google the Great Lakes Compact.

Population of the western US is going to have to start moving east again sooner rather than later.

Southern Utah is a beautiful part of the country, it's sad what's happening

It will get much worse over time because warming average temperatures in the Southwest means more evaporation of soil moisture out of the ground, snowpack in the mountains sticks around far less, and creates a positive feedback loop of more drought.

This post is only meant for Cedar City, but I am sure that it is the same for any other town or city in Utah.

Not to 'steal' this post but...
So why do I see, continuously, huge, enormous, apartments complexes go up arpound SLC?

Is there a lot of building still going on in Cedar City?

Because we live in a state run by real estate businessmen? There are some sensible folks at the local level who think of sustainability, like the link below. But, for the most part - it is a come-one, come-all and boundless and unsustainable development that is the priority of our legislature.

Sad to know that there is thus actually no city planning at all?
The word planning insinuates the word future...
I assume the legislature does not know that word!

When we moved to Utah over 25 years ago, we moved in and the previous owners moved out of State.
