We just found out we may be offered a relo to Sand Springs...can anyone give me some information to consider as we decide whether to accept the offer? We lived in Tulsa for several years (but moved to AR and now NJ), but know very little about Sand Springs.

Of course we are concerned about the quality of the schools and whether our kids will fit in the community. We have 2 little ones (3 and 5) and they are Chinese born. They both are quite bright but have special needs with regard to speech.

We also like to go to church and be active in the community that we live in and are Presbyterian.

Any information that could be share wouldbe greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It is a nice city. We go to a dentist in the downtown area. The taxes in Osage County are less than Tulsa County. It's close enough to Tulsa for specific churches and schools, especially private schools.

We lived in Sand Springs for 5 years when we were transferred to OK. Would still be there if we hadn't found our dream home out on Lake Keystone! about 10 miles west of SS.

Anyway, the schools are not bad. Poor test results in statistics is because there is the Tulsa Boys Home (group home/orphanage), and the Rader Center (lock down for 'youthful offenders').

Regular schools are fine.

The city is nice, has a lot of the necessities, 2-3 groceries, a WM Super Cetner, a museum, 5-10 good restaurants (not counting fast food). I really liked living there!

There is every flavor of religion in SS but it's not completely closed-minded. I'd move there again.

Hope that helped!

Be careful where you move, if you move anywhere near Garfield elementary the neighborhood is full of drunks and meth addicts. Vehicle vandalism is getting bad too, make sure you have a garage to park your cars! I wake up to trucks peeling out in the streets and go to sleep to neighbors having drunken yelling fights. I would suggest moving to a house somewhere across the river.

I would be very careful about letting your kids go to the playgrounds around here, I have personally found needles left sitting around the park several times as well as other unsavory things.
Also they might experience a bit of racism, I see it a lot around here and I am white. You see the typical confederate flags and etc but I even saw a truck with a big swastika drawn on the back window in tape which stayed that way for about a week until someone broke out the window.
Not all of sand springs is bad but make sure you stay away from the bad parts!
