Do you prefer to drive on interstates or US / state highways when travelling for recreation?

If it’s far enough away then interstates are preferable. I do like the scenery on smaller highways, but the towns and signals tend to negate the purported fuel economy benefits. I have many times chosen the scenic route despite this.

I very well know what you mean. As I remember once when we were trying to cut north to I-68 to go west in western Maryland(via West Virginia panhandle), we got stuck in stoplight hell on US 522 in Berkeley Springs, WV. They are building a bypass around this town which is opening very soon, but that is opening too late for us!
