Some photos from Monday this week. I took a double-decker bus north from Manchester and sat upstairs right at the front so I was able to take a few pics in the city itself.

British eccentricity at its finest. (or maybe he's smoking some wacky baccy!) He really was trying to ride his bike backwards. The bus was stopped at traffic lights while he was making himself look a complete fool.

Manchester Cathedral.

When I got off in Burnley I took a country bus out to Wheatley Lane.

The last Inghamite Church building still open for worship.

On to the former mill town of Nelson. Rows and rows of terraced housing.

and then out into the countryside. Looking back at Nelson.

Southfield Methodist Church - it's in a barn, on the right-hand side and above the archway.

Back in Nelson - this is the boarded-up St Mary's Church.

Part of a walk I made in the Staffordshire countryside. I walked by the Shropshire Union Canal for a while but to get there had to walk across some fields.

Possibly the shortest telephone pole in the world.

View of St Mary's Church at High Offley from the canal.

I came away from the canal at Old Lea.

and took a road up to High Offley. This is looking back down the way I'd walked.

This probably was the village pub but, like many pubs in the UK, it had closed.

For my 1,000th post let's go to...Slovenia (again!)

This was a morning trip I made to the town of Škofja Loka. Once there I walked uphill to a church overlooking the town, hoping for a good view.

The winding path passed the Stations of the Cross.

Views from the hilltop.

The castle and the Old Town with the residential tower blocks of the New Town centre right.

On a distant hilltop was another church.

Heading back down.

And we haven't got to the town itself yet...

Some photos from a day trip I made from Krakow, Poland. I took a bus south to the town of Zakopane with the intention of taking photos of the Tatra Mountains.

There were lots of food vendors in the streets.

The snowfall got heavier and I had to abandon my original idea. So I went to the bus station and looked for a bus to anywhere!

The village of Chocholow.

The red-roofed building is the post office.

Public library.

Chocholow cemetery.

The village viewed from the cemetery.

An orca-watching cruise from Anacortes WA. We passed through the San Juan Islands and finally found a pod of orcas off Victoria BC.

This was the first part of a walk I did last Thursday in the Derbyshire Peak District. Don't worry if you're not used to country walking, this bit was downhill.

Alsop en le Dale is the village we're heading for.

The path we're taking goes straight ahead.

That's the churchyard among the trees.

As we're going downhill this is the view to the right, to the east.

Now we can see more of Alsop.

The church of St Michael and All Angels is open to visitors so let's take a quick look inside.

The millenium window.

The view from the church doorway.

On our way out of Alsop, walking along the road to the next village.
