I am a mom of 2 kids living in a Toronto suburb.
I moved to Canada in my late 20s from abroad but still not 100% at ease with the
how to navigate Canadian parent social environment. My son plays hockey at AAA rep level and it requires significant amount of time and money investment, so naturally I spend a lot of time at the rink.
One would think that spending this much time at the rink would make other parents more
Inclined to be friendly and socialize but no. I get a “stink eye” on a regular basis from other moms and
some parents don’t say hello even though I see them frequently. I am always polite and say hello and smile.
There are cliques that purposefully exclude others, nasty/dirty looks and no acknowledgement/ignoring, all mostly coming from other moms. I am completely at a loss why women in their 40s act this way and how to deal with such unpleasant environment. Is it normal for Canadian moms to
Behave this way? And if yes, why?
