Neither do I. I checked fares, and Toronto Union to London is $30 one-way on GO, while it is $77 (one-way economy class) on Via. I cannot see an eight-hour commute at $60 a day for someone living in London, and working in Toronto. You'd be on the train 40 hours a week, in addition to working 40 hours a week, and paying $300 for the privilege.
But. Trains have one advantage over airlines, and that is they don't just go between two points--they go through every place in between also. As Memph implied, and I can confirm after checking the schedule, it's now possible to go between, say, Stratford and Brampton, or Kitchener and Toronto, at much less the cost of travelling on Via. I can see where this would greatly appeal to some travellers, especially students at Western and Waterloo, who want to get home to Toronto (or any stations west of Union) as cheaply as possible for the weekend. They wouldn't be doing such trips every day, but as a former student myself, I'm sure they'd appreciate every break on costs they can get.
Yeah I mean honestly, I think the only way for it to be sustainable would be those intermediate stops so people going from say London to KW or Brampton. You'd need that mix rather than just point to point that takes forever anyways. I do think something high speed going London/KW and some sort of Western terminus or Union Station would be great. London and K/W regions are growing at a strong clip I hope some time in the future people start embracing rail more for regional travel in our country We are still way behind in this regard.
All passenger rail in the corridor has to yield to freight traffic because a freight company owns the track. I don't drive ...have a parent in London and tried to make it work for me, but VIA Rail is a pathetic operation.
I think it's a shame they couldn't negotiate having both services run as the two are quite different services even if using the same route and some of the same stations. What's really screwy is that while VIA Rail has stated they will resume their London-Toronto service, they have not stated when.

The only alternative is to build track for GO trains.
