I'm looking for something that will make my family and I happy and comfortable, yet not scare away my parents and in laws when they visit.

We have a very liberal, all encompassing sort of belief and need to find a Christian church that is OK with that and is still at least somewhat in line with what our relatives are comfortable with (traditional Christian teachings). Does anything like that exist here? We had a church like that up north and thought it would be easy to find down here, since it is clearly more liberal overall, but so far we haven't had any luck. We've been to several different churches and none of them are remotely close to what we're looking for.

The in laws are arriving later this week. If anyone has any ideas please let me know! I would very much appreciate it.

Default What do you consider liberal?

The challenge is figuring what you mean by liberal.

(and I don't know about Bay area churches..)

I'll assume they read from the Bible. Do they sing songs that your parents did 40 years ago? Do they have a guitar or drum kit for music? What about hymnals? Do they have meditation? A political sermon? A Socialist speaker?

Sometimes it feels unfamiliar.. but has the same message.

Sometimes it feels familiar, but has a very different message.

And even if you think it is a "safe" church... your parents may show up the weekend that the preacher is blessing a gay union.

Is that what you meant by liberal?

You might check out First Unity Church on 46th Ave. North or Unity Christ Church on 1st Ave. North, both in St. Petersburg.

Thank you both! I will look into those churches bravard.

As far as what i'm looking for; really just an open minded pastor and congregation that still makes traditional Christians feel comfortable.

It is smaller but check Cypress Meadows in Safety Harbor.
It and other churches often offer streaming for their services. This can be a good way to check out them out before visiting them.

Check out a Unitarian church. Sounds like it would be right up your alley.
