Hello everyone!
I have a child that was delayed in speech.
Along the line we saw improvement at least
can say some stuff and reading as best as he can.
However this is where we got stuck.
Issues answering the The 5 Ws and the 1 H questions.
Why, What, Who, When, Where and how questions.
What do we call this kind of ailment so I can further research on it.
He can only answer basic questions like
What did you eat
What do you want
but when I say what happened in school today?
No response.
Looking forward to all responses.
Thank You

Appreciate this reply.
Will give developmental pediatrician a shot to see their analysis.
He has a speech therapist but because he just got to that school not so
familiar with the ST to be able to ask that question.

How old is your child? Has your child been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum?

The reason I ask is because one of my children (now an adult in his 50's) is autistic, he had a speech impediment plus wasn't able to formulate the thoughts and start to be able to string words together into complete sentences until he was 7 years old. Before that he could only answer questions with one word replies. He didn't start speaking any words at all until he was around 5 years old. He is fine now, still has a bit of a speech impediment but he now has an extremely high vocabulary, greater than most people possess, and uses his vocabulary appropriately.

At 11, he should have been evaluated already, so do get an appointment and see what the developmental pediatrician says. What has his school said? Teachers in general usually recommend evaluations if a child is struggling.

Are you in the United States? If so, what state are you in?

You may want to take this online quiz for him.
