Thinking about this, made me say "wow"

I eat beef, primarily Tenderloin. 4x per week.

W.Foods: $39/lb
Market 32: $29/lb

May not seem like much of a difference if we are talking one 7oz piece, but that's 7oz x 4 = 28oz per week, or 1.75lbs per week, which means I consume about 91lbs per year. At a price diff of $10/lb, that's a savings of $900 per year. Wow.

Now to see where else I can save...

Price shopping makes a difference. I can get that beef tenderloin, good quality, for $18 a pound. So you still have a ways to go on your beef budget. Disclosure, I do have to take my $18 beef tenderloin home, cut it into steaks and wrap it.

There is a huge difference in price range from store to store. The grocery stores that I shop at will have the same goods on sale as Safeway has but at half the Safeway price. Safeway is a pretty store to shop in. It's a good shopping experience, but when I get home that can of beans I paid 39 cents for looks just the same in my cupboard as the same brand, same size can I paid $1.79 for at the pretty store with the good shopping experience.

Lucky you. I live on the east coast, so I don't think I would be able to get that price here. And I have no issue cutting it into steaks and wrapping it; I actually do that sometimes if and when I buy a whole tend.

Will have to do more price shopping. Never really paid attention; now I will. See if I can't add another few hundred to that amt.

Thanks.

Sounds like you're on the right track. I used to live in your neck of the woods and did a lot of price comparing.. If you don't object to a ride down Rt 8 to the Derby Shop Rite, they have much better prices than the Seymour S and S. If you go to Shop Rite, apply at the courtesy desk for a card and then check their on-line sales every week. (or see if they still send a sales flyer out in the mail) Also, there are other Shop Rite stores in CT, maybe in or near Waterbury.

I do remember they put whole beef tenderloins on sale always before big holidays.

It can be fun if you're able to put a bit of time into it.

Start home canning and you'll save even more! Poultry and pork can very well. Lamb cans beautifully too and it's less expensive than beef!

We live on a farm and grow our own fruits and vegetables and raise livestock for meat, eggs, poultry and dairy. We can, vacuum seal, dehydrate, freeze dry and dry age.

You could easily save double or triple the money by eating larger servings and bumping to 7x week! That's where I'd start!
