I agree about Publix.
Here's something different discovered about Publix when we moved from Florida to North Carolina:
1. BOGO in North Carolina you don't have to buy 2--you get half price on one if one is all you want to buy
2. Wednesday is Senior Day and get 5% off almost everything except alcohol (wine, beer)

I think South Carolina may have the same deal. Am close to the state line but usually shop in NC

I've been to a few HEB's, and most of them were really nice - one place from Texas I really wish we had around here. We have a Wegmans - it was really nice when it first opened, but now their shelves are always half bare, prices are so much higher, and I don't find their store brands very good. I do love their bakery and cheese, though, so I do stop there from time to time. Shaw's is overpriced, Stop and Shop is always out of stuff. Price Chopper is OK, they are switching their stores over to Market 32 here. I usually go to Market Basket, but I will say the last 6 months or so they have gone down hill, at least the two I go to. They just throw out whatever is on the top of the pallet so nothing is where it should be, they are out of a lot of stuff, and their quality, especially meats and veg, have gone decidedly downhill. We are waiting on a new one to open soon, so hopefully that one will be better.

Yes.....You can buy One BOGO item at half price! They also accept coupons from other stores. I did not know about the senior discount on Wednesday though.

Whole Foods also gives discounts if you are Amazon Prime member (we are)--receipt showed 10% off sale price on some items whoohoo. I think I had to give my phone # on checkout terminal at first but now they recognize my credit card (same as Prime).

I shop WFoods when in area--25 minutes away--they have 365 Food products which are a good deal and for special occasions can find interesting bread loaves and meat dept can have good sales.

Zero mention of Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati area?

Anyway, I live next to a Wegman's right now, and it's good but not the top for me. Especially since I grew up in Texas and HEB is definitely something else. Then HEB Central Market is on yet another level.

Back when I lived in Atlanta for a year or so Publix was my go-to...it's definitely the best out of the "regular" grocery chain - much better than the like of Kroger or Safeway.

And when I lived in Midwest, Fresh Thyme is far and away the best (it's partially back by Meijers which itself is 100x better than Walmart).

I've lived in multiple states and regions and my favorite supermarkets were the following, several of which have already been mentioned on this thread.

1. Missouri- HyVee
2. Florida- Publix
3. Texas- HEB

About the only place I lived where I truly felt the major grocery chain was flat out bad was when I lived in Denver and shopped at King Soopers (which is part of the Kroger family). Tried multiple stores and eventually just gave up shopping there and started alternating weekly between Sprouts and a super Target.

And just in the past 3 years or so, I've started to shop for the basics more and more at Sam's and Costco and just divided items and froze as necessary. In the past, I used to go to those places only for paper goods, at the holidays etc.

I believe that's due to a NC law. The other grocery stores do the same.

Looked up the Stone Oak store on 281 on Google Maps... even shopped there a couple times while I was staying with my nutty cousin! I was pretty stressed out, which is probably why I don't remember!

I currently live in New Mexico, and have for many years, and here, a Sprouts is an elevated supermarket experience. I am pleased to say this supermarket is easily the most impressive supermarket I have ever entered, in any state around the country. I was wondering if there are other supermarkets similar to this regionally around the country, so I thought I would create this thread. I really look forward to reading what others have to write.
Nugget Market is the original grass roots Whole Foods. Nugget came from Woodland, California. The CEO has a 99% rating from employees, to Whole Foods 60% rating. Nugget is expensive but a fine holistic, healthy, genuine upscale grocery store. There are only 13 Nugget Markets to 500 Whole Foods.

They are only in a tiny region, basically between Sacramento and Sonoma.

I used to go to the Nugget Market in El Dorado Hills. They sold a brand of extra sharp cheddar cheese I could not find anywhere else.
