People that still have it can still use it, but it won't be updated and sooner or later will be obsolete since it won't work with updated android or apple software. I guess one can still update it from non-official sources along with the risk of viruses, etc.

This shouldn't surprise anyone nor the fact that China is in a very big and heinous competition with the US.
US is the current main super power and some speculate the next one to be China and as a natural part of this hypothesis that suggest the position to typically last around 250 years with a 20-30 year transition period, and based on that hypothesis, US reign is speculated to come to an end in the next 5-15 years, the upcoming candidate for the position (China) is doing exactly what was expected of them.
There is no doubt there is a very big somewhat subtle economy based war happening.
There is a 2012 movie called Looper. Not sure who'd seen it but in the movie there is a part where the main young lead learning French because he wants to live in France during his retirement where his older self that came from the future strongly urges him to move to China instead. Not sure if any caught the message behind that but well...
On a more factual note, it is well known amongst educated shoppers and travelers that China has 2 production quality; one for domestic consumption which is better, and the other, inferior ones used strictly for export, mainly to US.
That is why Chinese tourists do NOT buy Made in China stuff outside China. Why would they when they could buy the better and cheaper version back home?
I suspect there will be other sites that eventually get the boot - Temu and Alibaba. We are going to war via internet, the country just hasn't recognized it's coming.
The question is whether or not the owner is willing to sell such a hot property.
