David I can't even imagine how you can compartmentalize and keep track of all the goings on and important themes in such wildly diverse places as North Dakota, PNW, Los Angeles, Inland Empire, San Diego (and all of California?!), much less keep track or your own home territory just for sanity's sake but huge props to you for doing so!

Since this thread is now a sticky, it might as well have useful information. Those interested in San Diego can consider neighborhoods based on factors that interest them. Prospective residents no longer have to worry about receiving biased information here and instead can verify the desirability of a given area.

Parolees and those on probation
This map shows prospective San Diego residents where most parolees and persons on probation live in San Diego county.

Areas with high concentrations of the lowest income persons in San Diego
Here is a map showing where the poorest people live inside of San Diego. See this map as well.

Political affiliation in San Diego County
Here is a 2011 map showing persons by registration.

School performance
This map can assist those looking at school districts all over San Diego county.

Crime
This map provides crime rates in San Diego county. This map shows changes in [reported] crime in San Diego county.

Real estate prices
This chart shows the most recent sales prices in any given area in San Diego County (and Southern California as a whole).

Rental seekers
Try this site which shows listing on a map or this one or this one or this one or craigslist.

Last, this map shows the racial composition of all of San Diego County based on the 2010 census. Mind you, the 2010 census does not capture all persons.

I might add that some of us who feel the urge to contribute to every one of these redundant threads only encourages their activity. I fully support the idea of some sort of requirement needed before someone is allowed to start a new thread.

Ah, yes, that would be nice. Nice, indeed, City Data.

Haha. I remember when I first moved to San Diego I was a poor student and lived in a crappy studio in Banker's Hill for $775 a month. Awesome location though right between dt and Hillcrest and while it was a pretty crappy, tiny and basic place it was in a really cute Spanish style building. The only catch? It was RIGHT UNDER the flight path. So I got to hear the ridiculously loud plane engines every 15-20 minutes or so. Surprisingly you actually get used to it, though my hearing has never quite been the same :P. And this was about 5 1/2 years ago, I bet it probably rents for a grand nowadays.

Anyway I agree - people have ridiculous expectations about SD. Is it as bad as LA yet or still a bit better? Work took me from SD to LA and then to Kansas City. LA was definitely worse than SD at that time but omg, KC- Talk about a cheap place to live, my gawd. It was a breath of fresh air. Sorta too quiet/small here though and no family anywhere around here so who knows, may make my way back to SD if the right opportunity presents itself and I make the right amount. But if I ever had kids, no way Jose. But it'll probably be condo living for me no matter where I live and I couldn't care less about schools.

I'm starting to think that San Diego is becoming more like LA/NYC from the stand point of, "if you can Make it here in San Diego you can make it anywhere".
Like a child being told, "no don't do it" people are still coming out here with no job or money and trying to live here anyways.

What would be nice would be a better forum layout so you don't have to spend countless hours digging for the literal tons of information on every single location. City Data isn't going to provide that either. Being a member on other forums, is it really going to make a difference for somebody to put useless comments on 10-20 threads before asking a repeat question?

I know it seems bothersome to have to answer the same questions over and over again, I run a facebook group of almost 3000 people and it grows every day. One thing I have learned about people is they cannot be expected to hit a search button

Patience, grasshopper.

Okay, I had to read the thread you were talking about. I had a few good laughs, all in good fun, of course.

OK, I have to ask. After years of hammering on SD (in lieu of Sac) I am almost ready to make the job transfer to SD. I am desperate to change my work situation, and this appears to be the best way to do that.

That said, I've found plenty of 1 BR rentals in U-Heights and La Mesa Springs for around $1,200 and less. They are not described - nor do they look - any different than what I would get in Sac for the same price. Similar SQ/FT, similar age of buildings, and hell, I have explored the areas and they look fine to me. Even desirable.

Am I missing something here? I also found a great 1 BR on Banker's Hill for $1,450. Again, it was very comparable to what I'd get in Sac for the same price.

Am I seeing the entire picture, or missing something?
