Was scanning Google Maps for things that would affect home prices in the Salem and surrounding area. I usually look for dumps, wastewater, transfer stations an such.

Didn't find any landfills. (Having similar issue for Vancouver. Wa. area... seems there's not hits on anything that looks like a fill.)

Anyone know where they're at before I email WM?

In another thread someone mentioned, "The Marion County dump and recycling center is off of Gaffin Rd between Salem and Aumsville. "

A quick look shows it's right next to gov't and correctional facilities, a Home Depot Distribution center and an Amazon Distribution Center.

For me that's a red flag. Means all the Amazon deliveries, Home Depot products, etc. are being dragged through a zone of waste contamination. And by extension that means the homes those products end up in.

Actually they are pretty well separated and use totally different exits/roads. It's not a landfill, just a transfer station.

It's about 4 miles difference.
I used to live near the Landfill when it was a landfill. Never stank. The Pigs & silage did have have a smell at the Santiam Correct Insti. when it was working farm.

I think you need to go and visit the dump. It isn't an open landfill like other parts of the country. It is more like a concrete bunker built into the slope of a hill that has a huge cover over it. It is probably 100 feet wide, maybe 40 feet deep and then a couple of hundred feet long. Then it has a metal roof over it. You can see the top of it in the photo on the main page of the dump.

You dump stuff and then the front loader puts it into trailers that haul it away. It is why it doesn't stink until you get right up to it. It is contained.

Completely incorrect. The waste transfer station isn't even on the same road as HD and Amazon and does not directly connect. They are separated and no deliveries go through that area. Besides that fact, Home Depot distribution center only delivers to it's own stores, not residential. So no, they do not go through that area. Amazon deliveries come out of a different location as well. If you look up the transfer station on Google maps and scroll to the left you'll see what I'm talking about.
