I'm looking to buy a home on a canal in South Gulf Cove neighborhood of Port Charlotte with the idea of having a sailboat at the dock.
I would like to know what are the canal depths? Are there some canals with no bridges to open water?

Older threads, 2017, speak of 6 ft depth and self service locks. Has this changed?

Would anyone in the South Gulf Cove neighborhood be able to tell me what their experience has been ?

Might be wrong didn't do lots of research in that area because I believe the only way in and out is through operating a smaller lock system. I don't think it is a big issue but most of the boats you see in the area are smaller under 30'. If you look in souther part of Port Char north of Harbor you will find many of those lots/houses have sailboat access. Same with Punta Gorda.

My understanding is that we’re talking about 8 feet or so. Some lots have no bridge between the lot and the lock. There is no fuel in the canal system but my understanding is that there are many, many miles of canal in SGC -
Like over 40 miles.
