Paulden is the low point of Rte 89 which I am intimately familar with. At 4400 ft it is much more of a high desert than the areas 20 miles south near Prescott at 1000 ft higher. Snowfall for every 500 ft altitude makes a huge difference. The Prescott airport is just south of Chino Valley and gets half the snowfall areas at Whiskey Row get since 5000 feet tends to be the rain/snowline during a lot of the winter storms.

I moved to Paulden in June 2017 and LOVE it here. This past winter we did have "snowmaggedon". We got almost 3 feet of snow that didn't melt off in a few days, but locals that have been here decades tell me it's the most they've seen in almost 20 years. The summers are hot & dry, but not as hot as Phoenix. Personally I LOVE it here. I am retired so don't have to commute to a job. There IS a local fire department that is very responsive if you have an emergency. We have an ACE hardware store and a Post office. It's 7 miles from my home to Safeway in Chino. It's 22 miles to Walmart in Prescott or Prescott Valley. Costco is 23 miles in Prescott.
