Thanks Tiffany,

I really appreciate hearing about your garden and the flowers that are blooming. And I really don't mind Jan sharing her frustration with the weather. She did start out with a great idea of a place to visit which I can add to my list of places to see.

We will be there in three weeks to check things out. So I'll make sure to take 'lots' of pictures and post the link to them here. And hopefully it will rain on us good so get a feel for the PNW.

I was just talking to my wife tonight about the stark contrast between this forum and the nature photography forum which I also participate in - one talking about the blooms of Spring and the other talking about all the gloom. I told her that if we move to the PNW there will be things we really love and other things which will probably be difficult to deal with at times. But that is really true of any place you live - just a different set of pros/cons. And if the pros outweigh the cons for you then you make it work.

Also I don't want to invalidate anyone's experience because it is theirs. But on the other hand it is also good to look outside and see what makes Portland and Oregon a great state to live in (but obvioulsy not a perfect place).

HOWEVER............. I picked up a cheapo disposable camera...i took a bunch of pics along the coastline from Florence-SealRocks and was going to see if I sent it to anyone, if they wanted to take it down and get a disk and put the pics up, theyre welcome to em. I was going to finish out the roll on our way to Bend next week, IllinoisBoy had requested some pics of that area....

I am with IL boy, I want pictures!!! Maybe you can get some help from the local photo shop places out there. You simply must. It would be almost a crime to not share.

I personally love the springs where all the trees are in bloom and it smells heavenly. Where I went to college at Elmhurst College, the school was also an arboretum, so the walk ways were lined with flowering trees and everything! Oh, my heart aces for those days again!

I heard Enrico say you guys don't have as many decidious trees out there. I would assume they would be in the neighborhood, though right? I'm sure people plant plenty of them in their yard, or do they?

Well said, mtnsurfer! I think we all agree with that. I think that' s how I feel in my own comparison of home to Portland. There are definetely things to weigh, but I'm going to make it work someday!!

I went to Washington Park while I was in Portland to hunt for an apartment. I was so impressed by the beauty there, I got an apartment near the park. Camellias in all shades of red, pink, and white were in bloom, as well as some purple-flowering groundcover (maybe campanula?) backed by the lush green of ferns and mossy trees. It was lovely.

I took my mother to the Tulip festival last week. It was beautiful weather--I believe it hit 80 (or close to it) one of the days. She was in awe of the rows and rows and variety. It's a must see when you're in the Portland area in April.

Really? That's awesome!! I thought you guys were still in your cold spell.

I even checked the weather for POrtland on sat and they had all rain forcasted.where does this festival occur?

Ah, the misinformation. I had to laugh watching Martha Stewart's "Easter" show last month. She was saying how Easter came so early that the daffodils wouldn't bloom for quite a while. The daffodils had been blooming here for weeks.

The forecast? I was having breakfast with my father this morning talking about the week's forecast, and how it'd shown rain for the past week, too. He said he'd been out working in his yard all week and hadn't been rained on once. I think I felt a sprinkle or two Saturday afternoon for a few minutes. I do hear it's raining now, but spring rains are pretty random. It's more a matter of a cloud comes along and drops some rain. If it happens to be over you, you might get wet. If you're 50 feet off to the right, you might stay bone dry.

And I wish those "no sun for nine months" talkers would come sit on my car hood and shade my eyes for me. Several days in the past week I've found myself blinded with driving into the afternoon or the setting sun. I really must plan my travel better!

I bet the green is so green it hurts your eyes let alone some sunshine!LOL

That's wonderful news to hear from all of you! Oh, that's such good news! I knew it was true! You guys are making my future plans easier and easier... to come and visit and see if I fit in. WHich I think I will, tooting my own horn here!

Yes, I know what you mean. I have been looking at the pictures all year on the PNW nature forum. Here is another example from yesterday. If you ever doubt just check out the PNWNP forum.

She was here the 11th, 12th and 13th. I looked it up and the high was "only" 78. It was beautiful blue skies and in the 60s and 70s the entire time she was here. Then we had a cold spell, which we're still in. The winter weather here is varied. That weekend is a perfect example--three beautiful warm SUNNY SUNNY days, then back to some rain. It's not always gray, it doesn't always rain, we just tend to hear about only the wet days on here

The festival I believe starts late March and goes through mid April.
