When people outside of PA, think of PA and mountains they tend to think of the Poconos. That's understandable from a proximity to major urban centers. But, to me the most rugged mountains tend to be in the center of the state. Places like Butler Knob, the Throne Room and Big Mountain seem to standout as the must rugged, traditionally mountainous area of the state. Are there other views that really standout?

High Knob at World's End State Park in Sullivan County and Colton Point State Park in Tioga County. PA does not have tall mountains. It has a lot and hills and valleys.

Altoona. The city is so underrated. The I-99 corridor is one of the top drives in the state.

There is a vista from the 'whiskey springs' atv trail, aka the renovo atv trail. You can get there only by atv, and you are likely to be attacked by bears, but it spans a dozen miles and very few people have ever seen it.

Hyner View.

Part of Hyner Run State Park.

Located about 20 miles west of lock haven on PA route 120.

Tiny little park with day use facilities and a few camp sites.

Hyner Run, a great little trout stream, runs through the park.

My wife and I went to Mt Davis, which is actually the highest peak in PA, on Sunday. The trail was pretty muddy from the rain Thursday/Friday, but it was pretty cool. There is a big tower you can climb at the peak to get a nice view of the area.
