Scranton? Reading? New York City? The AARP recently came out and said San Fransisco was the best place to retire. I don't know who these articles are written for.

Many of these "best of" articles circulate throughout the year. Money has to be changing hands some where.

The article mentioned Huntington WV/ Ashland KY but didn't mention how easy it is to get pain killers? Seems like a miss.

San Francisco?! I knew that AARP was bought out and pushed propaganda but that's absurd. You retire to save money and live comfortably and SF offers none of that. Sky high real estate, plunging quality of life issues, horrible city state federal and local government. If you're a millionaire, maybe.
The PA suburbs and rural areas west of Philly offer lower costs of living, many services and activities and top ranked hospital care.
