We are going with questions today related to things that happened on a May 15 in history.

  • The first McDonald's opened in 1940 (on May 15). Tell us a McDonald's memory you have from any part of your life.
  • And whether you eat there any more or not, what 3 things have you liked best at McDonald's over the decades?
  • The city of Las Vegas was founded in 1905 (on May 15). If you won a free vacation in Las Vegas, name 3 things you would like to do or see or visit while there.
  • And tell a strange or odd Las Vegas story you may have.
  • In 2010 a 16-year-old Australian girl became the youngest to sail around the world solo. Have you ever been on a sail boat? And if so what do you think of sailing or riding on a sail boat?
  • If you had to name a sail boat, what would you name it?
  • Which of these would you rather take an excursion on:
    sail boat
    hot air balloon
    canoe
    helicopter
  • What is something daring you did as a kid or teenager?
  • The founder of the Phillipine cinema was born in 1893 (on May 15). What is the name of the most recent movie, show, or series you watched that was NOT in English, that is you watched it with subtitles
  • And what is your favorite language to watch films or shows in, that is NOT English?

Have a wonderful day.

  • The first McDonald's opened in 1940 (on May 15). Tell us a McDonald's memory you have from any part of your life.

The first time I ever visited McDonald was during my vacation in the US. I was already an adult, and curious what's all about it.

  • And whether you eat there any more or not, what 3 things have you liked best at McDonald's over the decades?

I never had a meal there except for parfait. I thought it made a pretty good breakfast. I had it while traveling and using McD free Internet. Not sure if it's still on their menu. It was decades ago.

  • The city of Las Vegas was founded in 1905 (on May 15). If you won a free vacation in Las Vegas, name 3 things you would like to do or see or visit while there.

I have been to Las Vegas. I think it's visited mostly for shows and gambling. I would like to see some interesting shows, because I am not into gambling. I also would like to see the Hoover Dam and Valley of Fire State Park.

  • And tell a strange or odd Las Vegas story you may have.

I think I was surprised to see how fast big money is gone on the betting tables.

  • In 2010 a 16-year-old Australian girl became the youngest to sail around the world solo. Have you ever been on a sail boat? And if so what do you think of sailing or riding on a sail boat?

Yes, I have been on sail boats many times - I am a member of a Yacht Club and hold a skipper license.

  • If you had to name a sail boat, what would you name it?

    Ceres.

  • Which of these would you rather take an excursion on:
    sail boat. <<<
    hot air balloon <<<
    canoe
    helicopter <<<

  • What is something daring you did as a kid or teenager?

When l was 16 and visited East Berlin, I crossed the border to West Berlin on a whim, briefly waving my ID which was very similar to the ID used by daily work commuters.
Later on, I called my Mom, who encouraged me to stay in the West, but I chickened out and crossed the border back.
I had an incredible luck to cross the border twice, completely undetected!
I sometimes wonder how my life would have turned out today had I made this difficult life decision...

  • The founder of the Phillipine cinema was born in 1893 (on May 15). What is the name of the most recent movie, show, or series you watched that was NOT in English, that is you watched it with subtitles.

Most movies l watch are foreign - l like their plots better. Sometimes I watch those in languages I can understand fluently, sometimes I just read the subtitles.
Last time I watched a German movie without subtitles. I like other European movies, also Turkish and Arabic. I don't care for Bollywood.

  • And what is your favorite language to watch films or shows in, that is NOT English?

Movies in languages I understand are easiest to watch, but I don't mind reading subtitles. I like "Scandinavian-noir" but those I watch with subtitles.

Have a wonderful day.

Great Questions, Tzaphkiel!! Thank you for participating!!

  • The first McDonald's opened in 1940 (on May 15). Tell us a McDonald's memory you have from any part of your life.
When I was in high school, McDonalds had just come to our town. On Friday nights when my parents went out to dinner, they'd leave us kids a big bag of McDonalds hamburgers, shakes and fries. That was a big treat. Later, when I lived in New York City, the first McDonalds opened, and the place was always mobbed.
  • And whether you eat there any more or not, what 3 things have you liked best at McDonald's over the decades?
I liked the Big Mac, the fries and the hot pies.
  • The city of Las Vegas was founded in 1905 (on May 15). If you won a free vacation in Las Vegas, name 3 things you would like to do or see or visit while there.
I'd like to visit my cousin and his wife. He builds houses in LV. I'd also like to see the neon sign museum.
  • And tell a strange or odd Las Vegas story you may have.
I've got nothin'. My one visit there was fun but uneventful.
  • In 2010 a 16-year-old Australian girl became the youngest to sail around the world solo. Have you ever been on a sail boat? And if so what do you think of sailing or riding on a sail boat?
Yes, I've been on a sailboat. Sailing isn't my thing, but I can see why people enjoy it.
  • If you had to name a sail boat, what would you name it?
Elena
  • Which of these would you rather take an excursion on:
    sail boat
    hot air balloon
    canoe √ This one.
    helicopter
  • What is something daring you did as a kid or teenager?
Visiting a "haunted house" at night with some friends and stumbling around in the dark. It was actually not haunted, just an abandoned house.
  • The founder of the Philippine cinema was born in 1893 (on May 15). What is the name of the most recent movie, show, or series you watched that was NOT in English, that is you watched it with subtitles
"Diabolique," a classic French movie from the 1950s.
  • And what is your favorite language to watch films or shows in, that is NOT English?
French, because I am studying the language right now.

Thanks, Tzaphkiel!

The first McDonald's opened in 1940 (on May 15). Tell us a McDonald's memory you have from any part of your life. Back in the 50's they made a great fresh off the griddle hamburger and had real good french fries. Portions were double the size today. Burgers were .15 cents then. Burger Coke & fries combos were .35 cents.

And whether you eat there any more or not, what 3 things have you liked best at McDonald's over the decades? Nothing lately, everything has been downsized and made with crapier ingredients. The Big Mac years ago used to be a worthwhile burger, no more. Carl's Jr is far superior, IMO.

The city of Las Vegas was founded in 1905 (on May 15). If you won a free vacation in Las Vegas, name 3 things you would like to do or see or visit while there. Have been there over 50 times, seen most all of it, and have no desire to go back there even if I won a free vacation.

And tell a strange or odd Las Vegas story you may have. Met some real mafia mobsters.

In 2010 a 16-year-old Australian girl became the youngest to sail around the world solo. Have you ever been on a sail boat? Yes. And if so what do you think of sailing or riding on a sail boat? It's fun if it's not super windy.

If you had to name a sail boat, what would you name it? Witty.

Which of these would you rather take an excursion on:
sail boat
hot air balloon
canoe
helicopter <------

What is something daring you did as a kid or teenager? Jumped off our house roof.

The founder of the Phillipine cinema was born in 1893 (on May 15). What is the name of the most recent movie, show, or series you watched that was NOT in English, that is you watched it with subtitles. Have never watched any.

And what is your favorite language to watch films or shows in, that is NOT English? None n/a.

Have a wonderful day. u-2

The first McDonald's opened in 1940 (on May 15). Tell us a McDonald's memory you have from any part of your life. - I used to work in that disgusting grease pit...

I have a current colleague who eats that slop almost every day. The smell of that stench makes me ill.

And whether you eat there any more or not, what 3 things have you liked best at McDonald's over the decades? - Only one pleasant memory is I met my first girlfriend there and we had a wonderful 2 year relationship.

I bought an egg sandwich from one of their locations about 4 years ago that was better than I thought it would be. No interest in anything else they sell there and there are better alternatives for breakfast. It was the first time I bought anything from there in over 30 years.

The city of Las Vegas was founded in 1905 (on May 15). If you won a free vacation in Las Vegas, name 3 things you would like to do or see or visit while there. - Hoover Dam and I'll check out the shows to see the choices I will have.

And tell a strange or odd Las Vegas story you may have. - Never been and no desire to.

In 2010 a 16-year-old Australian girl became the youngest to sail around the world solo. Have you ever been on a sail boat? And if so what do you think of sailing or riding on a sail boat? - Never been.

If you had to name a sail boat, what would you name it?

Which of these would you rather take an excursion on:
sail boat
hot air balloon
canoe
helicopter
- Maybe this one, depending where we are going.

What is something daring you did as a kid or teenager? - Drive 120 MPH. I did that 3 times, always alone.

The founder of the Phillipine cinema was born in 1893 (on May 15). What is the name of the most recent movie, show, or series you watched that was NOT in English, that is you watched it with subtitles
And what is your favorite language to watch films or shows in, that is NOT English?
- I don't seek them out and I am not a movie buff.

Have a wonderful day. - Thanks for the questions!

We are going with questions today related to things that happened on a May 15 in history.

The first McDonald's opened in 1940 (on May 15). Tell us a McDonald's memory you have from any part of your life. I remember when they changed from their original fries to ones they claimed were more healthy but they forgot to say that the then new ones taste like paste. I rarely get fries from them. I would love to tell you a Burger King story that happened to me last Friday in Delaware. But it's not McDonald's.

And whether you eat there any more or not, what 3 things have you liked best at McDonald's over the decades? sausage biscuit, blue shushee/icee and strawberry/banana smoothie.

The city of Las Vegas was founded in 1905 (on May 15). If you won a free vacation in Las Vegas, name 3 things you would like to do or see or visit while there. Play the slots in 3 casinos but I don't fly anymore.

And tell a strange or odd Las Vegas story you may have. Never been there.

In 2010 a 16-year-old Australian girl became the youngest to sail around the world solo. Have you ever been on a sail boat? And if so what do you think of sailing or riding on a sail boat? Never been on a sailboat.

If you had to name a sail boat, what would you name it? Shark Be Gone

Which of these would you rather take an excursion on:
sail boat
hot air balloon
canoe
helicopter
None of them but if I had to pick, it would be the sailboat.

What is something daring you did as a kid or teenager? My "adventures" were in college

The founder of the Philippine cinema was born in 1893 (on May 15). What is the name of the most recent movie, show, or series you watched that was NOT in English, that is you watched it with subtitles
And what is your favorite language to watch films or shows in, that is NOT English?
Night and Fog, an award winning French documentary with English subtitles made in the 1950s about the Holocaust. I first saw it in college and bought the DVD.

As far as the second question goes, I always joke that I need subtitles for Australian and British movies because of their accents, slang and how fast they talk. The last time I said that was within the last year. I was watching the excellent UK/Australian (combined effort) TV movie Threads made in the 1980s. It's about a nuclear attack on a town called Sheffield in the UK and the horrors of nuclear winter and how the fabric of society degenerated over time. In the beginning quarter of the movie, there were some parts where I had no idea what they were saying even though it was in English and I could have used subtitles. But, to specifically address your question I'll cut and paste from an older post of mine:

Two documentaries about the 3 day siege of the grade school in Beslan, Russia, in 2004, by Chechen extremists. They held adults and children hostage and then they started killing them. One is called 3 Days In September and the other one is Children of Beslan told by the surviving children (6 - 12 years old). They are different because 3 Days In September gives you more insight as to what was going on both inside and outside of the school. Children of Beslan is heartbreaking because it's all told from the children's (ones held hostage) perspective of the traumatizing event and then what they think after it happened. I remember one was hoping Harry Potter would save them and one wanted to be like the terminator and kill them all. If you watch both, it's good because they complement each other.

Have a wonderful day.

The first McDonald's opened in 1940 (on May 15). Tell us a McDonald's memory you have from any part of your life.
In the 1950's....We loved McDonald's and enjoyed joining the "date night" lineup of 50's cars. We all had our radios turned up LOUD and rebbed up our motors.

And whether you eat there any more or not, what 3 things have you liked best at McDonald's over the decades?
This year, I've enjoyed their warm strawberry pies. Since I'm on the road a lot, I can always find a McDonald's along the way, to enjoy a coke, pie, or shake. Forget the burgers!

The city of Las Vegas was founded in 1905 (on May 15). If you won a free vacation in Las Vegas, name 3 things you would like to do or see or visit while there.
We did everything we wanted to do and saw it all! My late husband and I enjoyed trips to Vegas 4 different times. We always played the penny slots, went to shows, and visited the wax museum and other venues along the strip. Our plane always circled over the Grand Canyon, which was a site to see, but scary for me. Vegas was one of our favorite places for fun!

And tell a strange or odd Las Vegas story you may have. Odd Thing: My husband won a lot of money in Vegas playing pennies on our 2nd trip. Who would have thought pennies would pay off big, and on the first day, and first hour we were playing? After his big Triple Win Jackpot and the Hullabaloo was over, we immediately took the next plane home to get to our bank. I was a nervous wreck! ... but a happy one!

In 2010 a 16-year-old Australian girl became the youngest to sail around the world solo. Have you ever been on a sail boat? No

And if so what do you think of sailing or riding on a sail boat? No interest. I enjoy speed boats, pontoons, and fishing boats.

If you had to name a sail boat, what would you name it? Don't Rock The Boat

Which of these would you rather take an excursion on:
sail boat
hot air balloon
canoe
helicopter
None of the Above

What is something daring you did as a kid or teenager? Daring for me: I tried to smoke a cigarette and almost choked to death!

The founder of the Phillipine cinema was born in 1893 (on May 15). What is the name of the most recent movie, show, or series you watched that was NOT in English, that is you watched it with subtitles
I never looked at any of those

And what is your favorite language to watch films or shows in, that is NOT English?
None

thanks for the original questions!

Good morning.

The first McDonald's opened in 1940 (on May 15). Tell us a McDonald's memory you have from any part of your life.
I didn't like the food and actually I got sick after eating it. It was in 1990 or 1991, I forgot.
And whether you eat there any more or not, what 3 things have you liked best at McDonald's over the decades?
I only ate the fries, that's all. And only twice in my life. I was a vegetarian at the time. I liked their French fries but after some time I found out that they prepared them in lard. At that point in time anyway. So...I was eating lard as a vegetarian, ha ha. Not fun! I don't like 3 things, I don't like anything about them.
The city of Las Vegas was founded in 1905 (on May 15). If you won a free vacation in Las Vegas, name 3 things you would like to do or see or visit while there.
Nothing. I would not go, I would gift it to someone else.
And tell a strange or odd Las Vegas story you may have.
I don't have any. Actually I do have one but it's negative so I rather keep it to myself.
In 2010 a 16-year-old Australian girl became the youngest to sail around the world solo. Have you ever been on a sail boat? Yes but only in a maritime museum. So it did not move, it was a stationary boat. And if so what do you think of sailing or riding on a sail boat? Not for me since I get sea sick.
If you had to name a sail boat, what would you name it? Sea sick.
Which of these would you rather take an excursion on:
sail boat
hot air balloon
canoe
helicopter
What is something daring you did as a kid or teenager? Many things but I want to keep them private.
The founder of the Phillipine cinema was born in 1893 (on May 15). What is the name of the most recent movie, show, or series you watched that was NOT in English, that is you watched it with subtitles.
Shtisel.
And what is your favorite language to watch films or shows in, that is NOT English?
French and Italian.

Thanks.

Have a wonderful day. Same to you.
