Medical care in NW Indiana (Crown Point, St. John: university, moving to, retired)

We are retired, early 60's and are considering moving to the Crown Point/St. Johns area to be closer to family. We are active and healthy but since we are older we want to be close to good medical care as we age. How is medical care in NW Indiana for seniors? Thanks in advance for your insight.

University of Chicago is building a new 130,000 sq. ft micro hospital in Crown Point which is great news. It will save lots of trips for people into the city for specialities.

Franciscan is building a complete replacement of it's Crown Point hospital which is good too. However Franciscan at times can be flaky, unfortunately, as the are the largest provider in the area. They have taken too much of the market in the area and have near monopolies in some things. Community is the next biggest hospital operator in the area with Methodist a very distant third.

The thing is, if NW Indiana doesn't have it, Chicago does, and its not far.
