MOD NOTE: This thread was started in 2009 by a new member.

What ever happen to the community, Stoney Mountain Resort at Lake Wallenpaupack, that was to be built on both sides of state Route 507 just south of Tafton in Pike County were White Beauty View Resort once stood?

I see construction next to the old marina but not any where else.

The owner developer does not own the sewer and water companiies that serve the proposed resort area. Without these he cannot build

We used to go up to White Beauty View Resort in the 60's & 70's. I now have a house in the Hideout, and am curious to see what is no longer there! How would I get to where the resort was, from the Hideout? Thanks for any help.

Take Route 590 to Hawley. Make a right when you get to Route 6. Go about two miles to the next traffic light (near the dam) and bear to the right onto Route 507. The site is probably about 7 or 8 miles (guesstimate!) on the right side. There is still a parking lot across the road.

My Husband used to go to the old drive inn movies there. When I was a kid we used to rent a cabin in the Marine Terrace Inn for most of the summer, it was great. I have such good memories of that place. I think it was bought out by Earharts restaurant.

My grandmother owned a bar not far from White Beauty, it was the Red Garter on Rt. 507 and my aunt owned a cabin right up the street from that. I don't know if anyone every heard of Bomb bas, every Saturday night all the locals would come and they would play there Bomb bas and the Polka guy would play Polka music. Me and my cousins were kids then so we would go to the drive in (at White Beauty) and watch movies. That was all they really had for us kids at night around there. All of my childhood memories revolve around Lake Wallenpaupack. I have not been up there in 8 or 9 yrs.

My parents went to the Red Garter all the time. We had a trailer at White Beauty View and I spent many wonderful years there enjoying the marina, game room, drive-in, and many friends. I went back several times over the past decade and almost cry when I see all those beautiful memories now burned out trailer shells, torn up roads, and no remnants from that wonderful time. The only things left are the Guccini homes on the hill.

For those unaware of what a boomba is:
skew * four * Centerstage * Boom-Bas

I used to go with my parents to the Lucky Dot on Rt 402 to pick up take-out and would peek into the bar & watch the men play them, it was so amazing to me as a little kid

I used to work there in housekeeping when I was a teenager. It was always busy then. The restaurant was very nice as well. It's on a good location by the lake. Too bad it's no longer open.
