It depends on what the person enjoys and how they wish to live their life. If they would rather be home and watch TV and read or play games, it's their life and to them it is fulfilling. In the event a person like this notices or acknowledges that they have issues that are causing them less quality of life they will most likely seek professional help.
It's their preference, it's their life. Some people stay home and away from other humans. That's what they want. Some people go chumming for sharks or jump out of airplanes. What's the difference? If they are happy and content with their life, then YES, they can and obviously that's what they're doing. What's good for one may not be at all attractive to another person, but it doesn't matter, so long as they are content.
