It is a bigger village with walkability. There is a Super Wal*Mart that you can walk to and there is a Hannaford, but it is a bit separated from walkable infrastructure/sidewalks.
Also, what is the reason for looking into Herkimer? I ask, because there may be communities that are a better fit for what you are looking for. To be fair, Herkimer may meet enough of your criteria to work.
Another thing is that if you need to get out of the village, you can take a bus. However, you are likely to need a car.

You also have the villages of Ilion, Mohawk and Frankfort. There are about 25,000 people between them and doesn’t include those in the rest of the towns.
