Saw a history post about 1827 being the first year New Orleans had the Mardi Gras. Has there been any talk or planning for an upcoming 200th anniversary Mardi Gras? While 4 years may seem a long time from now, I don’t think it is too far away to consider possibilities for products, retail, advertising, lodging, police security, paramedics, and hospital ER.

Mardi Gras is a major "Bucket List" adventure for a lot of my contemporaries. I'll be stuck at work but we'll do Mardi Gras dinner to join in the experience.

I'm sure they'll honor the significance of the upcoming one. Americans are like that.

As a life-long Southerner, I've been going to Mardi Gras for the past fifty years, both in Mobile (where it originated) and in New Orleans. Honestly, I don't think it will be that much wilder or crazier than what we are seeing now.

The first American Mardi Gras took place on March 3, 1699, when French explorers Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville and Sieur de Bienville landed near present-day New Orleans, Louisiana. They held a small celebration and dubbed their landing spot Point du Mardi Gras. (Some argue the port city of Mobile, Alabama was actually the first to observe the event.)"

I grew up in Mobile, the Ms Gulf Coast and New Orleans. Those are all right next to each other. Obviously, I saw a lot of Mardi Gras parades. They're safer on the Gulf Coast, and Mobile's is more of a family affair. New Orleans is for the young folks now, and even if I were young I would be very concerned about the crime in New Orleans at any time, anywhere. Things have changed.

When was New Orleans for the old folks? And yes, things are safer than the 90s.

I don't think NOLA is any safer now than in the 90s.
