I have fond memories of dining at Antoine’s in the Vieux Carre.

Now that it's been mentioned, what are the places to stay away from? Is the French Quarter mostly safe? Because that is where I will be 99% of the time. Should we be walking home from restaurants or UBERing?

IMO, The French Quarter is very safe, especially if you stay on the main drag. But...don't try to close any of the bars down. You don't want to be only one or two people left on the street at 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning, or you could be mugged.

I've been to New Orleans 4 times, and I love the city, and I love the French Quarter. We've never had anything bad (crime wise) happen to us.

I agree with this and I am a native of New Orleans and have been back many, many times.

Bourbon is still packed at this time of night. I remember it clearing out closer to 4-6am many nights.

Crime is everywhere and on the rise everywhere for the most part. Use common sense and don’t go down unknown dark alleys or venture out into areas you don’t know that aren’t related to the areas you want to visit. Especially alone. Trouble usually doesn’t come unless you go looking for it. Have a nice time on your visit. New Orleans gets a bad rap for crime and rightfully so BUT it isn’t some place to fear like a lot of people suggest.

What? The street doesn't shut down when I shut down? LOL

I just remember something that happened (not to us) when we were down there once. 2 guys came out of a bar, walking down the street, and they got jumped from behind. One of the guys fell, hit his head, and died. It was in the Quarter, but not Bourbon St. The whole thing was on CCTV, and the street was pretty much empty. But again...not Bourbon St. I don't remember the name of the street.
