It's hard for an understaffed, underfunded agency to handle a bottomless pit of clients. There are 5 kids (at least) in this extended family, and except for the one that was adopted, the others have worthless parents who keep having more kids.

My first week in this field, a mother who had 6 kids, all in placements, came to my group home to pick up one son who being reunited with his family. She placed in the car and turned to me and said "I'm taking the pick of the litter and the state can have the rest"! True story. That was my welcome to life in human services!

The police have been very busy searching the house in Manchester which was Harmony's last known location. (Her family no longer lives there.)

The FBI Evidence Response Team joined the Manchester PD in searching the house and digging up the backyard over the weekend.

This is interesting. A Mass court gave custody of Harmony to her father while NH was trying to obtain information related to the father and stepmother's fitness. Gov Sununu just sent a letter to the Mass court system requesting an explanation.

This case heartbreaking but unfortunately it is a good example how messed up, understaffed, under funded, the juvenile system is. Just a tragedy that it does not get more attention

That is beyond disturbing. I’m so sorry you have to deal with such things. Talking about her children like they’re a litter of stray dogs. Sickening. My parents are retired but both worked in social services and basically scared my brother and I from ever entering the field with their stories. You’re a better person than I am. All the best to you.

Kayla Montgomery is charged with one count of felony theft by deception and two counts of welfare fraud. Prosecutors allege that on Nov. 30, 2019, she lied about her stepdaughter, Harmony Montgomery, living with her in order to get benefits. "The time period in this charge is a time period for which Harmony Montgomery is completely unaccounted for," said Assistant Attorney General Jesse O'Neill. "This charge begins when Harmony disappears.

"Investigators released new information about when Harmony, 7, was last seen. They said Harmony's father, Adam Montgomery, and his wife, Kayla Montgomery, were evicted from their Gilford Street home in Manchester on Nov. 27, 2019. Witnesses reported seeing Harmony and their two children with them at that time, officials said.

By Dec. 6-10, 2019, Adam and Kayla Montgomery only had their two children with them, police said. Investigators said they believe Harmony disappeared sometime between Nov. 28 and Dec. 10, 2019. During that time, the Montgomerys were homeless and living out of cars, possibly in Manchester's North End, investigators said. One of the cars was a silver 2010 Chrysler Sebring, and the other was a dark blue 2006 Audi S4.

In court, prosecutors said they believe Kayla Montgomery knows something, and they consider her to be a flight risk.

No more news on Harmony's potential whereabouts, but this is tangential to the case.

A woman who was dating Harmony Montgomery's father before his arrest has been found dead in a motel room in Manchester, police confirmed to WMUR. Kelsey Small, who did not face charges in connection with the case, was found dead Wednesday. The death is not considered suspicious.

Small was the girlfriend of Adam Montgomery. According to an affidavit, the pair were found living in a car on Dec. 31, 2021, when he was arrested in connection with the disappearance of his 7-year-old daughter.
