Are there towns in southern New Hampshire with a large Italian population?
Not really. Of course, there are Italians in NH, but it's not New Jersey As far as I can tell there's not even one Italian-American Club in NH whereas they are ubiquitous in southern New England.
Short answer: there are no large Italian enclaves in NH & for all practical purposes there are very few Italians in the state as a whole.
I know a few New Hampshirites, if that is what you yourselves, who are of Italian descent or have surnames that are Italian at least. I don't think it is all that unusual.
I am of mixed nationality Italian, Irish, English. My mom feels connected to some degree with her Italian heritage. I am trying to convince her to move to NH. I was asking this question not for exclusivity but I was thinking if she had some small connection to her heritage it may help me to convince her to move to NH. We have other family members who live in southern NH. I like the state a lot and believe it could have a lot to offer for myself and my family.
Maybe, maybe not (the timing of this post is suspect, I agree), but everything I've experienced of New Hampshire is that people bond by lifestyle choices, not nationality/ethnicity. New Hampshire is a self-sufficient, hard-working, outdoorsy type of state and that is what draws and keeps people here. People don't care what you are.
That's awesome. It's funny because I used to hear New Englanders are not friendy. When my brother moved to Milford I found the OPPOSITE true. The people were very nice. Of course, there are good and bad people everywhere but I really liked the state and the people there. I like to hike so the outdoorsy lifestyle if appealing to me. I am very happy to embrace the lifestyle of NH and all it has to offer. Thank you so much for all the info.
There's probably more Italians in NH than you think-- but they're in the Witness Protection Program and go by names like Smith or Jones.
Keep in mind that one of our greatest presidents was Italian--Abrahama Linguini.
