I'm new to the Omaha area and would like to find other Asians to hang out with but don't know where to go to meet them.

Why don't you get to know the people who do live nearby, and hang out with them? This is the U.S., assimilation is the name of the game.

But the leadership of this country is not going in that direction. They are letting in millions upon millions of foreigners. They wont even need to assimilate because there is enough of them to allow for polarization of the country.

So why bother?

I can't be of too much help, not being Asian, but there are some Asian grocery stores in town, as well as several movie theaters which show Bollywood films. Why not start there?

To the OP, "Asian" is a broad category. Are you looking for any specific language or people group?

It's a salad bowl, not a melting pot. There's nothing wrong with having a diverse group of friends / acquaintances, including a group with whom one doesn't feel (or is made to feel) "different" or like an "other."

Speaking as someone who passes as Asian, you might want to try bars, farmer's markets and bookstores.

In my experience happy clean living Midwesterners are willing to extend friendship to others as long as there are "family friendly" mutual activities in play.

If you have kids, Cub Scouts/ Girl Scouts is a way to meet other families without getting over extended financially or socially. Those organizations have laid off of pushing religious views as a bonding experience- they just want to see kids happy and learning about life.

Socializing at a bar isn't seen as terrible in the Midwest as taverns and bars are "social hubs" for towns and cities.

Good luck. Just trust your inner feelings and you can find friends.

Resistance is futile.... you will be assimilated.

That is the cultural difference between Canada and the US of A.

Canada is definitely a mixed salad. The diversity is celebrated and all cultures and religions are respected and welcome.

Why are some people so scared of differences?

BTW I agree that Asian is a bit of a broad category. Are you looking for East Asian, South Asian... etc.
