Hi, everybody! This thread has been created as a central location to post nature photos and news stories.

Several existing threads will be moved here, and I encourage all of you to post photos (not copyrighted, unless you have express permission!) and news stories that have to do with nature here. This way, we all have a specific thread we can open to view fun, amazing and touching stories and photos about our wonderful world's flora and fauna.

Post away!

Edited to add: If your news story is likely to lead to discussion among the users, then feel free to open a new thread.

Post News, Northeastern Trees May Be Extra Colorful This Year

Northeastern Trees May Be Extra Colorful This Year

Northeastern trees may put on a better fall foliage show than usual this year.

That's because lower than average levels of rain in New York and in some areas of the Northeast may lead to an earlier retreat of chlorophyll, the green pigment that allows plants to harness the sun's energy, said Donald Leopold, a tree researcher at the State University of New York in Syracuse.

Reminds me of a story about a guy that caught a large bass and upon opening it up was bit by a baby cottonmouth that had been swallowed recently. Heard it ages ago and it was in a legit source and not one of those stories told over too many beers.

Default Cheetah's speed secrets are revealed

Japanese researchers mapped the muscles fibres of the big cat known to accelerate to record-breaking speeds.

By comparing the cheetah's muscles with those of a domestic cat and dog, the team identified the special propulsion power of its hindlimb muscles.

The study is the first to investigate muscle fibre distribution across the whole of the cheetah's body.

The findings are published in the journal Mammalian Biology and examine how the muscle fibres of domestic cats and dogs compare with those of the world's fastest land mammal.

We used to put a stick in one of the claws and then jerk it out of the water.
