"Windstorm coverage" is hurricane coverage, although it covers tornadoes and any wind and possibly hail. Our main homeowner's policy excluded wind coverage and this is referred to as an ex-wind (excludes wind) policy. Many homeowners policies DO cover "windstorm" too, and it's usually a separate line item with its own deductible in Florida.

At one time we got wind-only insurance coverage at Citizens and had ex-wind for the regular homeowner's policy and then a separate flood policy. 3 diff policies: wind, regular homeowners excluding wind, and flood.

Rather than go completely without coverage, we plan to stick with an ex-wind homeowner policy going forward and nix the wind coverage and also nix flood coverage. Might even nix the standard homeowner policy if it gets too expensive or if they start dictating too many rules such as mandating a new roof that's not necessary. But it's nice to have fire and liability coverage.
