Pink Floyd for the power/mood and the variety of sounds.

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra

And any one of these greats: Marcia Ball (if you don't recognize her name look her, and her music up, she's GREAT) The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Buddy Guy, Wynton Marsalis or Joe Bonamassa
Pink Floyd for the power/mood and the variety of sounds.
The Carpenters for feel good/sing along songs, soothing vocals.

That's a nice, well-rounded list to help you keep your sanity.
Part of the reason it is difficult .....for example: AC/DC or Black Sabbath....love both
but would I want listen to their heavy stuff over and over and over again....
The Beatles .....is a no brainer for me....excellently written and varied music ...
with the Beatles you get a bit of everything ....all superbly written....
The Beatles are the opposite of AC/DC .....AC/AC is what I like to call, "a sound band",
you get slight variations of a certain sound....and I really like their sound but
give me The Beatles any day of the week please.
The Who....I am a huge Who fan ...I love to playing guitar to The Who .....
and the song writing...Pete Townshend was/is a genius ....and the sounds....
John Entwistle...best bassist ever....Keith Moon ...wild "lead drums" ...he was never
just a "time keeper" ....his huge kit didn't even have a hi-hat!....and last but not least...
Roger Daltrey ....he didn't just look the part, man could he sing too!....
After those two amazing bands it is hard ...because ideally it needs to be a music artist
with a lot of albums that I can listen to over and over ....not just one or two good albums.
Neil Young .....long varied career ....also I like that with Neil you get his soft singer songwriter
side and also his unhinged Crazy Horse rocker side.....cake and eat it too kind of scenario...
Cat Stevens.....only because of those 4 fantastic albums he released between 1970 and 1972...
the rest of his stuff, not so good, to put it mildly.
Mona Bone Jakon (1970)
Tea for the Tillerman (1970)
Teaser and the Firecat (1971)
Catch Bull at Four (1972)
Those four albums I can listen to hundreds of times....
For the fifth act.....Led Zeppelin....Pink Floyd .....The Rolling Stones ....all in the running....
if I had to chose ....The Rolling Stones.....60s Stones ....kinda like a bluesy Beatles ...then the 70s Stones at their peak ......and even a few memorable tunes since....
1.The Beatles
2. The Who
3. Neil Young
4. Cat Stevens
5. The Rolling Stones
