Ya know, we used to see ads all the time wanting ranch hands, where the deal was "housing and half a beef in exchange for you maintain the fences and watch the calves, and if you need cash work that can be arranged too." I don't see this as different, other than details.

Exactly. Previous owners of our property let a guy live here in a tent for free, in exchange for doing some tree thinning & cleanup. I guess he did that in his spare time and had income from some other gig he was working. It was one season and I guess he moved along, or so the story goes.

I bought the store in Sand Springs and am trying creative ways to find help while helping someone else out. No "slave labor" involved. I am pouring my heart, soul, and social security income into this store and I need help, I just can't afford to hire anyone right now. It hurts my heart that I am so easily dismissed by a community that I have been involved with for so long. If you look back on my posts you'll see my move from Florida to North Carolina as young widow with two kids, to the jump my disabled son and I made from NC to Montana in 2014. The only reason I thought I would come back to City-Data is I got tired of all the crap on FB. I thought it would be different here.
I'm dismissive because of the scenario you are posting. Work in exchange for electricity, basically. Or maybe food and electricity.

Face it anyone that wants a paying job can find one in Montana, the unemployment rate is so low it's not funny. Bozeman has working folks living in rv's on the side of the road- paid working. I wished you luck in your other post, I mean it. However I would never recommend to anyone your scenario. Good luck with the needle in the haystack search.
