"When we simplify our life, it becomes richer, because we have time for God, for family, for doing things together. For enjoying nature, for relaxing, laughing, just connecting as a family." - Sister Ranjana (Self-Realization Fellowship nun).

Sunrise over the ocean

Reading a good book

Learning something new

Cooking a meal and sharing

And for me an absolute necessity: MUSIC

Yes, I love the simple things in life. They usually cost little to nothing and are relaxing or entertaining. Any break from the rat race is a good break. Any excuse to unwind is a good excuse.
Totally agree. Adding sunrises, watching wildlife on hiking trails, driving to unknown places I've wanted to see for a long time, chatting up strangers from diverse places, helping someone in need.

And yes, MUSIC.

Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing my many senior rescue dogs sleeping, happy and safe.
I love the sight of the mountains when all I have to do to see them is go to the Post Office or go to buy milk down the street.
I do wish for company- someone to talk to, someone to sleep with (had to say it) but am okay with being alone most of the time.

I love "nice things." Sometimes they cost a lot of money; sometimes they don't.

Back in the day before I had learned that you don't have to shop in order to feel that you have enough I remember two times when my checkbook was down to a few dollars. Once I spent them all on a couple of steaks for us. The other time, even more sparse, I bought a new shade of lipstick. Two instant mood brighteners.

Since then I've grown to appreciate the natural world and its endless daily miracles, the authenticity of a smile from a baby, a one-of-a-kind, handed-down piece of my history - a chunk of wood with a wooden peg through it, part of my grandma's first home in America, the setting sun glowing pink, orange and purple from our back deck and its reminder that it's time for a needed rest.

I've surrounded myself with natural items and pieces that have personal meaning to me to make my environment one of significance and to remind me of who I am and what I value.

A funny story - Sis-in-law, at a first visit to my home, carelessly said of my precious junk, "I got rid of all that old stuff." We stayed friends. She obviously didn't know what she was talking about! LOL.

Amusingly since most of my family grew up in extreme poverty (including the ones born in the United States) we tended to do all the low-key low-cost things together.

Trips to open air markets (also known as flea markets) time with pets, time spent fixing things at home vs. paying a pro to do it, gardening, DIY home improvement like painting one's own house or working on a vehicle.

Definitely nice times.

I have no desire to participate in parties or events any more. For me no more professional sports, concerts, movies, casinos or cruises.

What I prefer in my spare time is:

Roadtrips with my wife
A walk in the woods
Fishing in a lake
Tinkering on my classic car
Watching the Motortrend channel on TV
Gardening/working on my bonsai trees
Home renovations
Woodworking
