According to One Beale's developer, the roughly 20 story/235 foot high Grand Hyatt hotel is now not moving forward, citing the city of Memphis not willing to live up to their end of the deal, allegedly.

Disappointing news for this final piece of the One Beale project, that has been in the planning stages since roughly 2004.

If the city of Memphis cannot work successfully with a development team in order to get a 20 story hotel tower built, that speaks volumes as to why the city is mostly stagnant with major highrise or major new developments over the past few decades.

Why has this City Changed so much in the last 10 years? I remember going to Tom Lee, and walking by the stables on Third
any time never worried about anything happening to anyone Man.
Used to love to go to the Jack Pirtles over Bellvue that was the best one in town I Think, everybody would be havin a good time. talking and laughing and waiting on them ole girls to call you up.
MMMMMM.
Lord I wish the country we call home could be back like it was before all this destructive cloud came down.
I remember this being the real center of Tennessee, not Nashville.
In the 70s through the 90s this was the most fun place around to live.
As a young man there was not a better place on earth for women and fun.

Hope they get together and fix up the City and make it THE PLACE again, WE need the Southern Belle again.

I've lived in Memphis since 2015 and I still haven't tried Jack Pirtle's. I will have to make it a point to try it at some point, though I expect it will be like Abner's or Zaxby's. I wasn't around to see Memphis in the 70s, 80s and 90s but some of the posts on this board make me wish that I could have seen it back then.
