Not sure. I think they calculate how much they will spend on repairs.

Mass just started giving out licenses to illegal immigrants a few months ago and now insurance rates skyrocket. Hmmm.

Yeah, that's not why.

Have you seen repair costs for modern cars? Some of this is due to supply-chain issues that are still recovering from the pandemic. Also inflation, as the average transaction price for new cars is significantly higher than even just a few years ago (so the underlying asset being insured is of higher value). Plus, people are completely awful on the roads, and that's not exclusive to immigrants (legal or otherwise).

Repair costs are one thing but also the sheer volume of accidents, especially those involving uninsured/underinsured drivers, where those actually paying into insurance have to make up the shortfall.

It says she won't receive a citation because it was an accident! I'm sorry but unless one is having a medical emergency, crashing into a building is not an accident. It is a result of reckless driving.

The driver of the vehicle was a 62 year old woman. That demographic is not reputed to be reckless at least by insurance company standards.

If you don't know the difference between your brake pedal and gas pedal...that's reckless!
