Since Tech hired Joey McGuire to be the football coach, there has been a renewed effort to improve things. Thus, you see changes to previous plans. Both the Womble Football Center (plans were released last fall) and the south end zone addition will now be constructed at the same time, starting after the last home game of the 2022 season (OU). The target date is the start of the 2024 season.

Yet I keep reading that colleges are panicking and slashing operating budgets due to dropping enrollments and rising costs. Apparently the football teams (of all colleges not just Tech) didnt get that memo.

No state or school funding is going to this project. It’s going to be fully funded by donors and suite holders, according to AD Hocutt.

As far as I know, Tech is concerned about handling increasing enrollment, based on what I’ve read elsewhere. Can’t argue about costs.

TTU did just receive the largest single donation in its history: $44 million to the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. It’s also constructing a new $112 million academic sciences building near the center of the campus.

In this day in age a winning football team will make people want to go to your school more than they did before, so with more people applying to your college the school will be able to be more selective about who gets in which will make the academics better in the long run. UTSA and Alabama are two schools that have had rising academics in the past 10-20 years and I think a lot of this has to do with football.

TCU & Baylor can be added to that list as well. I think that it also excites the alumni donors who help fund scholarships, buildings, faculty endowments, etc.

Good point. I didn’t even think about them. They are both a lot better schools than they used to be.

I wonder if Texas and Oklahoma moving to the SEC will hurt those schools (if so, it will probably be a minuscule amount, but still possible).

Those improvements look really nice. TT and the Big12 will be ok with UT & OU.

So our stadium will look like UT and A&M's stadiums? Cool...Tech is growing, as are all the larger TX universities.

Jones Stadium is pretty dang crowded during games and as an alum, I would love a section like A&M's Zone.

Yes, I will NOT miss UT or OU, especially during football season. They were never a threat during basketball season and not an obstacle for our baseball team most times as well. I do worry what Big 12 basketball will look like with U of H in the mix. They usually have a pretty tough team.

I'm a UT fan that is sad that we are leaving our Texas brothers behind. Definitely good that Tech is moving in the right direction. Who knows, if the SEC keeps expanding y'all could be joining us some day. Hopefully TCU comes too.
