An update please on best areas to rent in Louisville? (Germantown: apartment complex, crime rate)

Hi folks : )

I'm in my early 40's, finally on my way to getting out of FL, after helping my elderly parents for years. Frankly, I was planning to move one state over to Alabama, but the rents have skyrocketed into the $900s now in Birmingham, so forget that!

Louisville made my list because it has a healthy job market and I need rent that's in the $800 range and it looks like, at least right now, that's still happening.

I've read from on here that demographics are quickly changing because of a massive influx of refugees into Louisville...Would like to know what AREAS to avoid and what areas are Ok as far as habitating in?

Unfortunately, the violent crime rate in Louisville is significantly higher than the national average. Every day, there are multiple killings in Louisville. Interestingly, many of the murders in this city are NOT gang-related, which makes the situation even scarier. For the record, there is no apartment complex in Louisville with average monthly rent prices between $800 and $900 where I would feel safe and comfortable living. In my opinion, that is asking for trouble in this city. Even the apartment complexes with average monthly rent prices between $1,000 and $1,200 (on the "good" side of town) have a lot of questionable characters, and I am speaking from personal experience.

Rent in the $800's is going to be hard to swing unless you look in more questionable areas, though not impossible. You may be able to find a 1 bedroom in an older building without AC/Laundry in Germantown, the Highlands, Clifton etc. I would focus my search in 40204 and expand to neighborhoods east from there. For what you're looking for it's probably better to start a search and ask about specific neighborhoods as you find things.
