if the search engine can't pick up UKY in a search, that's a problem with the search engine and admin.

ok that is a possibility. I haven't had time to look at it yet but will. But in my experience most search engines cannot search by two characters. Has to be at least 3. I got the UKY from posts on other platforms, that is why I used it.

Not really. I am 65, multiple family members have attended UK...have never ever once heard it referred to as UKY....no wonder you didn't get any results. I would be surprised if you did by using that search criteria. If I may be so bold, consider that it might be user error, not search engine Failure.

I hope this doesn't sound rude, I was not intending to be....I was just trying to get the point across, that nobody calls it that. Search for 'UK' and you might get better results....but yes you will probably get mixed results including
United Kingdom....
Actually you can go to google and then press in UK in the city data forums, and you will probably get the best results.
Here.

The complete name of the school is the "University of Kentucy" And I said earlier that I had seen it referred to by UKY online. Which is where I got the search characters. UK is commonly the abbreviation for United Kingdom. So unless you're talking to a very limited group of students there or faculty, UK doesn't mean much. Again, at the risk of being repetitive, you cannot search UK. It's either "University of Kentucy" (which for lazy typers is not fun) OR UKY which is a more accurate designation, since the school is in KY. I suppose you could say UofKY, but who wants to do that? BUt ok students and facutly of "University of Kentucky" have at it, as long as you only talk amongst yourselves, and don't want to reach a wider audience.

I never said it was search engine failure. What I said is most of the posts on moving on this platform are years and years old. Again, not trying to be rude, but IF you read my posts, you'd see that most all search engines cannot search UK. It has to be min. 3 characters.

Okay.

I have a lot of experience in using search engines both professionally and for personal searches, and don't believe your statement is true.

For example, if you enter UK into google, it returns all sorts of pages about the United Kingdom (most hits) and the University of Kentucky.

I've found with city-data, a good search technique is to enter multiple terms. For example, entering UK university kentucky along with the restriction of 1 year ago to date returns this thread as the third top item. First top item is a thread in C-D's politics and other controversies subforum about the racist rant mentioned earlier in this thread. The racist rant thread has almost 280 posts as of when I'm posting this. See what was returned in response to my search at https://www.city-data.com/forum/sear...rchid=46511633.

The issue with entering just UK as a search criteria is that you get too many hits back. Entering the three character-word term as I did above also returns too much since this will return hits on any one of the terms in addition to all three terms. But the best search engines will put the hits that match multiple terms at the top of what they return, which is what C-D does.

The OP is correct in that there just hasn't been that many posts about UK here in the last year.

So C-D didn't censor posts about this, the thread was just started in what I think was the most appropriate C-D subforum for the topic.

No one I know refers to it as UKY. It's just UK.

It’s been referred to as UK since 1915 when it changed from State University to The State University of Kentucky. No one who attended there or lives in this state refers to it as anything but UK. It has had the same royal blue & white colors since 1891.

UK was never mistakenly referred to as UKY until they established their own internet domain and made it www.uky.edu instead of www.uk.edu (which does not exist despite the site insisting on making it one) because of concerns about confusion with the United Kingdom. It was quite controversial at the time.
