Anyone know if or when the Kalalua Trail and Haena Beach will open?

Thank You

not sure that visitors can even get past Hanalei Town, the road was not open to non residents, when we went
back to kauai for a three week visit a few months ago.

But, there are many, many fantastic, less crowded trails to hike on Kauai, with super views, .....and that is island wide.

The last time we hiked the Kalalau Trail.... there were at least 1000 plus , babbling, yapping hoards of visitors, reminding
me of the 605 freeway at Rush Hour. We have been hiking the kalalau trail for over 20 years, ten years as residents
and it just became to crowded.

On all of the different shores, there are great trails to hike, we would be lucky to run across six or seven other hikers.

Might want to check out KAUAI HIKES ( publication ) as well as The ULTIMATE KAUAI GUIDE BOOK

There will be great hikes listed, on all shores.

Division of State Parks | H

Division of State Parks | Kalalau Trail

My naive guess is sometime in late summer as traffic is expect to resume past Hanalei sometime this spring, but who knows, it could be a lot longer. Also once it opens it might be a lot harder to get into Haena State Park than it was before the floods as they are planning to restrict access to tourist up to 50% of what it was. They are even considering making tourist use buses to access the park, FUN TIMES....

Thank you for the responses. My wife and I have been to Kauai several times. It's one of favorite places in the world. The last time we were there a few years ago, I had planned to hike the Kalalua Trail and I decided at the last minute not to. I have been kicking myself for not doing it ever since. I promised myself I would go back. I will be back in August and want to do the hike on my 60th Birthday. Hopefully I will be able to.

I was reading on TGI news papers. Kaua'i is on tier 4. So all parks and trails should be open. Tier 4 being the least restrictive.
