I've been looking for work on LinkedIn for over six months and have gotten no results at all. I'm mostly looking for jobs that are not heavily skill-required. A lot seem to be scams.

Sometimes I get emails from some company that claims I applied there, but the name of the company is not one of the ones I applied to. Some of those are suspicious.

I have this idea that if you're looking for jobs that require specific skills, LinkedIn is better for you?

If a job is remote, isn't it more likely to be scammy?

We advertise our jobs on LinkedIn and Indeed, and I think they both try to screen out scams. Still, some are going to get by. We always ask how people found our job posting and it turns out that most are searching our external website job listings regularly. My suggestion is to identify companies that have the kind of jobs you are looking for and google for their websites and then click on their jobs. I was looking for a specific job at a public agency and used a site that has only those, city. county, airports, utilities etc.

LinkedIn can be good, but it's more a place to build/maintain professional relationships and THEN capitalize on those relationships for a job. It is not that valuable as a place to blindly look for jobs. At least not anymore valuable than other sites like Indeed etc.

I would also agree that LinkedIn skews more heavily to more traditional office and white collar type jobs. Especially in tech and engineering fields.

Personally I haven't really run across scams there and I use LinkedIn regularly/weekly. (At least not scams that weren't blatantly obvious bots, same as other sites). I have used LinkedIn to successfully recruit and hire people in the past based on the things they posted about and the groups they interacted with demonstrating that, even before interviews, they knew what they were talking about.

LinkedIn is for networking with other people in your field of expertise, not to go job hunting. If you don't have past work info and contacts already on your page and have some history, it's not going to be helpful to you.

I wouldn't think about trying to find a job through them.

Likewise.

LI isn't a terribly useful networking (or otherwise) tool for my field of work, but it has had a negative impact upon it. People in my field, above and below me on the org chart, are increasingly re-doing their resumes with all the usual buzzwords that LI and other career sites like. So it's become hard to actually know what these people do.

I just almost got scammed after using LinkedIn.

Last week I applied to some remote jobs on LinkedIn. There was some back-and-forth in emails.

They later said I got the job and they would be sending me a check to pay for things I would need for the job.
Scam.

Do you really expect to see these advertised? Anywhere?

In my view, these are the sorts of jobs that can only go the person standing there. Right right. Then.
And they'll also only go to one of the local miscreants they already recognize (they don't pay enough to afford commute expenses either)
If you don't already know who decision maker that is at business X you already know... find out.

LinkedIn is a Microsoft company now, so they are run by H1-Bs from India. That's why it has tanked in the past 3 years and why your data is going to scammers. Quit my profile years ago.
