Ramadan the Blessed Month

Fasting the month of Ramadan

Fasting is abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations from before the first light of dawn until the setting of the sun.
Muslims are required to fast all the days of the Ramadan month and that is 30 or 29 days depending on the new moon born.

Allah said

O you who believe! fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you,
so that you may guard (against evil).

The month of Ramadan is that in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance
and the distinction; therefore whoever of you is present in the month, he shall fast therein,
and whoever is sick or upon a journey, then (he shall fast) a (like) number of other days;
Allah desires ease for you, and He does not desire for you difficulty,
and (He desires) that you should complete the number and that you should exalt the greatness of Allah for His having guided you
and that you may give thanks.

******************************

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said,

Allah said: The fast is for Me and I will give the reward for it,
as he (the one who observes the fast) leaves his sexual desire, food and drink for My Sake.
fasting is a screen (from Hell)
and there are two pleasures for a fasting person,
one at the time of breaking his fast,
and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord.
And the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better in Allah's Sight than the smell of musk.

Fasting and the Qur’an intercede for a man.
Fasting says, ‘O my Lord, I have kept him away from his food and his passions by day,
so accept my intercession for him.’
The Qur’an says, ‘I have kept him away from sleep by night,
so accept my intercession for him.’
Then their intercession is accepted

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said,
In paradise there are eight gates
among which is a gate called ar-Rayyan
which only those who fast will enter."

Narrated 'Aishah: (The wife of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him))

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him)
used to kiss and embrace while he was fasting,
but he was the one of you who had most control over his desire.

I heard it to mean blessed. Also some here (NYC area) say Ramadan Kareem.

I work for a company owned by Muslims. The family who owns the business are kind and generous people of integrity.

When the month of Ramadan starts,

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said,
When any one of you is observing Saum (fasting) on a day,
he should neither indulge in obscene language
nor should he raise the voice;
and if anyone reviles him or tries to quarrel with him he should say:
'I am observing fast.
