Right. And ignore what the contract says? That is foolish and does not work out in my best interest and would show that I lack business sense and common sense.

I do realize in this day and age that being pragmatic and utilizing a moral compass is out of style, but I prefer to handle things in a more ethical manner.

The Seller finally had their agent call the utility because they could not be bothered. Speaks volumes about their integrity or lack thereof.

If the meter base had been removed it would be the responsibility of the previous owner to replace it.

But the meter itself is the property of the power company. It was probably removed when the person you're buying it from called to take the account out of his name. The proper way to rectify this situation is to call the power company and set up service in your name. And there's really no conceivable way that rain water could have made its way inside the walls of the house through the meter base unless the entire setup was installed horribly wrong to begin with which would be a much bigger issue anyway.

This could have been taken care of with a five-minute phone call to Alliant or Mid-American or whoever the electrical utility is in FM. If you're going to agonize over everything like this I really don't think a fixer-upper is for you.

EXACTLY. Maybe the seller dropped the ball, who knows? Either way, pull up your big boy pants and take care of it and move on
