What you and many others don't realize is that more and more farm work is becoming mechanized. Even delicate crops like raspberries are being picked by machines:

With mechanization, fewer workers are needed. Besides, as it's been pointed out, farmers have a visa program with no caps on it available for them to use.

Honest farmers who use the visa program have no problems when there are crackdowns on illegals. It's the sleazy farmers who refuse to use the visa program that have problems during crackdowns.

Besides, in The Heartland, lots of high school kids spend their summers doing farm work.

Undocumented workers are not only sending money back home but they are also sending the message back home that being undocumented is no big deal. I think taking it out on the workers is just killing the messenger.

It isn't a big deal when you can enter the country as an illegal alien so easily you can be deported a half a dozen times and still re-enter the country as faster than going to the local Wal-Mart.

I actually agree with you here. My default term is illegal aliens.

Consider the boomers and Social Security. Lets start with Social Security. It was set up as a Ponzi. Those collecting today are being paid by those who are paying in today. When it started you could not retire until 65. There was no early retirement at 62, no disability benefits, etc. Average life expectancy was less than 60. For everyone collecting you had about ten paying in. After WW II we had the boomer generation. Millions paying in. The fund was large. Then they started allowing early retirement, they turned it into a disability program and then the birth rate dropped. The average life expectancy is now over 70. And the massive boomer generation is retiring. More and more people are collecting and there are only two people paying in for each person getting benefits. Money is going out faster than it comes in. The massive amount in the fund is dropping fast and will soon run out. You have two options. 1.. Reduce benefits. And they are doing that. Years ago they made Social Security benefits taxable. More recently they are raising the age you need to be to get full benefits. They may reduce the COLA and it will fall short of inflation. 2. Increase money going in. They are going to raise the cap so each high income worker will pay more into the system. But there are not enough of them for that to fix the problem. How about get new workers? If you let in ten million workers every year they will be paying into the fund and it will keep on going, taking the pressure off the politicians today. So open the borders, let them in. Alternately, increase the birth rate. That will help in 18 years when they start working but not by much. But let's do it anyway. Let's make it that if a woman gets PG in any way, rape, statutory rape, incest, it does not matter, make them have the baby, ban abortion. that could add a million new workers a year, starting 18 years from now. Do not like either solution? Then come up with a third option. (Rehash, first is cut benefits, second is more workers by immigration and banning abortion, and third? )

They take far more than they contribute.

Making paragraphs would be nice. Importing millions of poor, unskilled and uneducated immigrants to work menial jobs that don't pay a liveable wage and whereby the taxpayer has to supplement their social costs and will drive housing costs up due to demand is not a smart idea. Overcrowding our schools, healthcare facilities, roads and neighborhoods and the added demands on our natural resources is not a smart idea either.

As for your comments about women, pregnancy and abortion is this your attempt at being funny?

Yep, they cost us over $100 billion a year even considering what they pay into the system. We have immigration laws and quotas for good reasons to.

Exactly.

And that poster also does not seem to realize...

Basically the only ones who benefit from "help with labor costs" are those who use them. Cost reductions, because of the much lower pay, are not passed on to the consumer...one only needs to go to the grocery store to realize that.

Citizens also "pay at retail stores with cash", but fewer are able to do that because of illegals.

All in all, there is really no benefit they add to the economy.
