according to nbc-

Otis’ stunning intensification made it the strongest hurricane to make landfall in Mexico in recorded history.

Wed 25Oct 11aEDT winds 80mph(130km/h), moving NNW 10mph(17km/h), pressure 980mb. Since that 11aEDT advisory the IR signature on satellite has nearly completely collapsed. Very rapidly about to be gone and def not a Hurricane as of 1pm.

Some random info on that surprise RI:

Intensity is harder to predict than storm path typically. Overall RI predictions have improved last several years but still can just miss it all together.

Some of the model guidance just before RI set in:

Actual with IR satellite: https://x.com/DrKimWood/status/1717152611592458386
https://x.com/DrKimWood/status/17171...592458386?s=20

Other RI model guidance, all showed lower overall chance:

Otis rate of strengthening is in the 98th to 99+%-tile of RI occurrences in Eastern Pac

I remember Wilma had a pressure decrease of an incredible 88 mb in only 12 hours beating Hurricane Gilbert drop in September 1988.

Wilma in 2005 went from tropical storm to a Category 5 Hurricane within 24 hours. I rememberwatching it. Was sick..

But Otis.... Epic

Tues 10am Tropical Storm
Tues 10pm Cat 5

CDO looked perfect. That is what will happen to my area as a super cane with gust to 230mph will hit my area and that is how i die after i lose it all.

Just 2 vids of many out there on social, but linking to these 2 as there are plenty of others with same location so it should be from this storm.

Car in lobby of Princess hotel, just SE of Acapulco Bay and Puerto Marques Bay - so likely storm surge and/or wind damage in first floor lobby.

Drive around portions of Acapulco area, can hear the countless smoke detectors going off - classic post-hurricane noise when building interiors exposed.

Otis fell apart as rapidly as it strengthened. System is gone. Some scattered showers remain across portions of Mexico. NHC archive: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2023/OTIS.shtml?
