Tues morning TD11e became TS Jova in the Eastern Pacific. NHC has rapidly intensifying during the week before weakening by the weekend out about halfway between the US mainland and Hawaii. As of Tues 5Sept 5pEDT winds 65mph(100km/h), moving WNW 9mph(15km/h), pressure 998mb.
Wed 6Sept 5pEDT Rapidly intensified indeed! Satellite estimated winds 130mph(215km/h), moving WNW 15mph(24km/h), pressure 953mb. May even be stronger this evening. The speed the clouds move on satellite is down right scary!
Thurs 7Sept 5aEDT Satellite estimated winds 160mph(260km/h), moving WNW 16mph(26km/h), pressure 929mb. Cat5! Has likely peaked as last several frames of infrared satellite show cloud tops warming and trochoidal wobble on satellite indicating eyewall replacement cycle beginning/ongoing in an extremely strong storm.
Sat 5aEDT/2aPDT satellite estimated winds 70mph(110km/h), moving WNW 13mph(20km/h), pressure 986mb. Nice spin, but infrared tells the story: storms are just slowly fading away. Will eventually become post-tropical. On it's way out.
Sun 10Sept 5pEDT satellite estimated winds 35mph(55km/h), moving NW 6mph(9km/h), pressure 1005mb. Now 'post-tropical' - no more advisories to be issued. NHC archive: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2023/JOVA.shtml?
