Re: hot water and garbage disposals. Where is "Mythbusters" when you need them. I can see Kari and Grant doing a test of 2 disposals, with the same greasy concoctions, with one using only cold water and one using only hot water.

Jessi, best known for replacing Kari during her maternity leave, died doing what she loved.
I use hot water and a bit of Dawn and let the hot water run a bit longer after I turn off the disposal. I don't put much down there anyway, but I want it nice and clean and any food bits rinsed way down the pipes.
I have not had any issue with clogs or grease buildup or overheated motors.
Never had one ever, til we moved to the deep south 23-ish years ago and into a rent house. We still rent. I run the unit when I need to, and whatever temp water is running at the time is what gets put into the disposal.
Been in this rental for 15? years, never had a problem until recently, when the unit died. Landlord replaced it, and here we are.
Never had a dishwasher, either until we moved here. Well, except for the husband.
