I can never reach mine - I will NOT use MyChart since CVS bought the ins. co. (STUPID to allow a drugstore to do such IMO) - This alone make me think I need to move to some small town - healthcare stinks anymore .
Healthcare options in a small town also sucks.
Two years ago, I moved to a rural area about 90 minutes away from Alexandria. I kept my NOVA doctors though. I see them for routine and regular extended care. For immediate care, I'll just go to a local urgent care.

I'm confused by this sentence. CVS bought an insurance company so you won't use software that is an effective means to communicate with your doctors? How does that correlate?
Join a concierge medical practice if you want contact like the old days.
I have my primary physician's cell phone number, and I can text or call him 24/7 (he also uses one of the portals where all your records and notes are available).
I'm guaranteed same day or next day appointments, I get a comprehensive annual physical included in my membership cost, he'll make house calls, he'll make hospital calls, yada yada yada.
Anytime I go in for an appointment I get as much time as needed ... not the 7.5 minutes that most HMO affiliated primary physicians will give you.

Concierge medicine is great.
Unfortunately, while I had concierge docs in CT, I do not have concierge practices here.

Time is not standing still. Not even in small town USA. You have an option to communicate with your doctor but you refuse to use it.

CVS does not own MyChart.
MyChart is owned by Epic Systems, which is privately held.
Epic Systems largest shareholder is its founder, Judith Faulkner. According to Forbes, her net worth is $7 billion.

Likely this doc is an internist. So if you need a surgeon then what?
the concierge practice I know simply refers you to a speciaist like any dr would. nothing different.
We have PPO insurance so just call whatever specialist we want. No need to be referred
