Everything available now is a pincushion brush (what we used to call dog brushes) or smoothing brushes that just slide over your hair. What happened to stiff nylon bristle brushes that were around forever until recently?

Didn't those used to be sold by door-to-door salesmen long ago? Selling a variety of brushes and other household cleaning tools? Nobody goes door-to-door anymore. Traveling salesmen have been replaced by Amazon.

I just checked - you can find them online. I don't know about stores. You might also find a beauty supply store in your area. Check with them.

Most beauty shops sell the "real" brushes. Not plastic, but also real natural hair brushes, like boar bristle brushes. Those are best for hair
Others might have mixed bristle (natural hair and synthetic materials like nylon)

Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Annie-Natural...df_B0149LE59W/

Target:

Sally's (many styles and sizes)

Ulta: (many styles and sizes)
https://www.ulta.com/p/cream-finish-...pimprod2023840

If that is what OP is looking for.

Ooops, I think OP meant those:

https://www.amazon.com/Hairstreaq-De...p_s_a_1_1_sspa

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Detangler...9E1/1467697786

https://www.sallybeauty.com/tools-an...BS-301550.html

I think they are called detangling brushes and l see them everywhere...

Note that pure nylon bristles will pull your hair and cause breakage, especially if you start blow-dry styling with the hair really wet or if you have processed hair, but they are good for detangling.

I've tried boar bristle brushes and they just slide over my hair. And I'm not looking for a pincushion brush--I already have one that doesn't do much. Here's what I'm looking for:

I've used brushes like these my whole life without damaging my hair. Like one of the posters in the thread linked to above, I had to go to Ebay to find one.

ETA: elnina, I do appreciate your posting all of those links to try to help me. Thank you!

I'm not sure if anyone is still alive that bought brushes from door to door salesmen. My father in law started his career that way in the 40's. And of course hair brushes have been available for decades at drug stores, grocery stores, big box stores, beauty stores, hair care supply stores, etc. I have a specific type I like, but rarely need to replace it. When I do, I just check all the local stores first as I'm shopping for other items.

Sally Beauty Supply has the nylon brushes OP is looking for. Sally is a large chain with many locations throughout the US and Canada and Europe. You can also buy online from Sally.
