IMHO, wait until you would regularly be going for a visit, for all the reasons you wrote. It's not that far away and it takes a lot of the stress-related issues out of the equation. The new family will have had plenty of time to get into a routine and your visit will be a very welcome and mild change to that routine. Your help and presence will be even more appreciated.

Thank you for your response. My son was very disappointed when I told him my thoughts. He definitely wants us to come early, and we have now have a sublet apartment close to him . HIs sister and her family will visit as we leave.
I see posts about getting TDAP. Frankly I don't ever remember getting this vaccination. We plan to get it. Is there a reaction to it? Fever, pain? How far ahead should one get it?
